Summer is here! Although this year is a little different, we’re still enjoying safe cookouts and outdoor activities with our immediate family members. It’s important to remember some key points about staying healthy throughout the hot summer months. That includes maintaining good dental health. Dr. DeCapite offers three great tips for a healthy summer and a healthy mouth:
- Raw fruits and vegetables: Crunchy carrots and juicy apples are refreshing during the hot summer months and they offer a lot of health benefits. Also keep pears, seedless watermelon, strawberries, celery, and raw broccoli on hand for snacks or appetizers. They’re good for the teeth and for overall health!
- Crushed ice: It’s important to stay hydrated throughout the year but it’s particularly important when the weather is hot. Ice is great for keeping drinks and people cool, but crushed ice is much better for dental health than cubes. Many people like to chew ice cubes, which can damage enamel or possibly even chip a tooth! Crushed ice in a glass is best for summer health.
- Infused water: Drop some healthy fruit into a pitcher of fresh, clean water for a refreshing and hydrating treat. Choose non-citrus fruits as the acid in limes and lemons can be harsh on teeth. Infused water is good for dental health and looks pretty on the table!
